Humro Home Chilapata is a small lodge in a traditional Rava family in a forest village. The jungles are just opposite the lodge with great chances of sighting from the Home Stay

The Property

Humro Home Chilapata is a small eco resort located on the southern fringe of Chilapata forest. The small forest hotel is managed by a Rava family. Sundar Rava, who looks after the Homestay, is a social activist. The home lodge is build on a two storied construction in traditional Dooars style. The rooms open towards vast open farm land which ends abruptly as the dense Chilapata Jungle begins. The accommodation combines the advantages of a home stay with amenities similar to a resort or hotel. The Chilapata Jeep safari booking point is within walking distance from our eco resort.
Our Jungle Lodge is situated in the forest village and you will be staying with a family that has been living in these forests for decades. The forests is about 200 meters ahead of you and in the morning and evening, it is not unusual to get to see a hard of elephant or a stray rhino roaming on the forest fringes.

Resort Amenities

Humro Home Chilapata is a small Home Lodge with 2 rooms at present. The rooms are both on the first floor of a two storied bungalow type construction in typical Dooars pattern. The concrete rooms have attached toilet with western commode and running hot and cold water. Both rooms have large windows and a common balcony in front. The wooden balcony is an ideal place to spend a long afternoon enjoying natures bounty.

The village is referred to as Kumai Busty, a forest village of Chilapata forest. The village is located at the extreme south of Chilapata. The large resorts and hotels near the jungle are mostly located within a distance of just 1 km from our lodge. Yet we are situated in the forest village far from the usual traffic of tourists.

The typical Dooars weather can be enjoyed at Chilapata. Days of summer are worm but it cools off soon after the sunset. Being located besides a large open ground, our eco resort is quite airy. Winters are cold with temperatures sometimes going below 10 degree Celsius. Rainy season is long with heavy rains sometimes continuing for several days non-stop. The forests entry remains closed during the rainy season but the natural beauty of the forests with its varied shed of green is also the best during the Monsoon.

The forest jeep safari in Chilapata forest starts from the check post nearby. This is the prime attraction for tourists visiting Chilapata. The “Nal Rajar Garh”, meaning the fort of the Nal King, though in ruins now, can be reached on foot or on Jeep safari. Being a forest area, there are restrictions on activities inside the forests. Walks can be arranged in the village to learn about local culture, or in the nearby Mathura Tea garden. You can also visit the Torsa River Sun Set point which is just 2 kms from our eco-hotel.
Jaldapara and Buxa forests are both within a driving distance of less than an hour, so is Coochbehar town. So this can be your base to visit this forests or the Historic Coochbehar palace and the Madan Mohan Temple there. Phuentsholing border town of India and Bhutan can also be reached in a drive time of just over an hour.

Guest Testimonials

Soumitra Ghatak March 2017

We stayed at the home of a Rava family. They were very welcoming and helpful. The small building is newly constructed and has good view of the open agricultural land ahead and the forest beyond. It was nice to stay...
