Latpanchar is famous for birds, in particular the Rufus Necked Hornbill and other Himalayan birds. The name Latpanchar in the Lepcha language means a place where cane grows. It is adjacent to the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. Our homestay is just 2.5 kms from Latpanchar Bazar area and is surrounded by acres of garden full of flowers and fruits.
The Latpanchar 6th Mile Homestay is situated at an altitude of about 4,500 feet.

Very poor service. Managerr force to take extra food inspite of our booking was with food ( including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and snacks alongwith dinner). If you do not take they behave rough and rood. They also force to take their two small car which is verymuch expensive and verymuch critical to accomodate 11 persons including 4 children and one Sr, citizen. It is very interior place place. I request the manager to hire a big car. They told that we booked a Tata Sumo for you but at 9.30 pm of the day before we leave from homestay to station for return jurney they informed me that your car is not available. They also make joke upto 9.30pm of the day before we leave from homestay to station for return jurney.

Thanks to James and his family for a very pleasant experience staying at their home. I arrived without having prebooked so was very lucky they had space for me in a lovely top floor room with balcony with a view over their terraced gardens and hill. The food was also excellent, grown organically straight from their gardens, and even though my arrival was unprepared it was also arranged for me to be taken for a brief look at the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary which was much appreciated.

Home away from Home, that too surrounded by mountain range, forest and chirping birds...but mind that 'Home' is not always about luxury. Its about hospitality that James Ji & Bhabi Ji takes care to the fullest....
