Orientation
Chuikhim is a new destination in the Kalimpong district of West Bengal. Our Homestay here is the home of the Gurung family. The Homestay is located on the upper ridges of the Chuikhim village with a great view of the surrounding hills. The Bangladesh border is also visible from here. You can spot a network of rivers like Chel, Ghish, and many other unnamed streams flowing silently across the valley. The chirping of birds will enchant you and the sunrise is beautiful to wake up to. This fresh destination is drawing more and more visitors of late as guests coming here are recommending it without hesitation to others looking for serene spots.
The nondescript village of Chuikhim in the southern part of Kalimpong district has been included in the tourism map almost a decade back. Growth in tourism has been slow here and only recently a substantial number of tourists have started visiting the village. Our Homestay is located near the top of the hill on which Chuikhim village is located. It is accessible by cars. The hilltop in the vicinity is an excellent place from where you can view the Dooars plains as well as the hills.
This is a basic Homestay. We offer you clean rooms and hygienic food. There is no typical hotel-like amenity here.
Whatever we offer, it comes with a complimentary smile from the host. There is a garden outside the house where flowers bloom almost throughout the year. Plucking of flowers is not allowed though. There are 3 rooms in the main building. The ground floor has 2 rooms and the first floor has 1 room. All the 3 rooms have similar tariffs.
Chuikhim is a hill on the southern fringe of Kalimpong hills. It is located at an altitude of about 2400 feet.
The area is locally also known as Kambal Busty. The hilly village is well known for its peaceful surrounding and hospitable local people.
Food and Dining
Since there is little scope for eating outside in the village, all our bookings are taken on a full board basis which includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and evening tea and snacks.
Typically, the breakfast consists of Roti sabji or Puri Sabji depending on guests' preference, accompanied with tea. The lunch is mostly with egg, dal, and sabji and for Dinner, we serve you Chicken with Roti or rice. Fresh fish is rarely available in the village and hence we do not serve it normally. In case of advance notice, we can also serve you purely vegetarian food.
Location / Accessibility
There are several tourist destinations and attractions around Chuikhim such as Yelbong, Nimbong, Charkhole, Loleygaon, and Samtahar.
Yelbong – This is a forest village about 5 km from Chuikhim. There is a forest road to take you there and trekking through the forest can be a great experience. Nimbong – about 8 km from Chuikhim is the Nimbong village, this is one of the larger villages in the area with schools and shops and can be worth a visit. Charkhole – Further 10 km drive on the same road to the North from Nimbong will take you to Charkhole, another upcoming tourist destination of the region with an excellent view of the Kanchenjunga range. Loleygaon – From Charkhole you can take the forested road (about 8 km) to reach Loleygaon, an offbeat tourist destination of the Kalimpong hills.
Chuikhim village is an ideal place to enjoy nature at its pristine best. This is not a place for hopping from one sightseeing spot to another.
This is the place for a village walk, this is the place for sitting under the sun on a cold morning while sipping a cup of tea, this is the place where you search for the unknown bird that calls from the wood, this is the place where you chat with the local villager in the evening and learn about their lifestyle. The village is situated on a hilly slope, the villagers are helpful and welcoming. A popular adventure activity here is trekking. You can walk from Bagrakote in the plains and reach here through a forest and tea garden trail. Small day hikes around the village include a trek to Yelbong etc.
The Chuikhim village is located at a unique altitude of about 2400 feet which gives you pleasant weather throughout the year. Even during the peak summer season, you do not require air conditioning or a fan here, and even during the coldest months, it will never be freezing cold. This unique weather makes Chuikhim a round-the-year destination. Monsoon months of July and August witness heavy to very heavy showers. Rest of the year occasional shower is very common.

You can reach Chuikhim either through the Kalimpong side or through the Dooars side.
If you are coming from NJP / Bagdogra or any other place in the plains, you should first drive to Bagrakot in Dooars. Bagrakot is a tea garden and village in Dooars just 45 km (about an hour) drive from NJP station. From Bagrakot, there is a steep uphill road that will take you to Chuikhim about 15 km away. Bagrakot to Chuikhim road was infamous for its steepness and used to be a stone paved road few would enjoy traveling. At the time of writing this in 2018, the road is now in great condition and can be traveled through easily. The other route to reach Chuikhim is from Kalimpong. This route passes through the Ralli river from Kalimpong and then on to Charkole, eventually reaching Chuikhim about 50 km away. Due to the difficult terrain, you have to pass through, it may take close to 3 hours to reach Chuikhim through this route. We would recommend traveling through the Bagrakote (Dooars) route to Chuikhim as the distance and travel time are much less there
