Dawaipani is a village just 20 kms from Darjeeling town. It is a village on the hill at the back of Darjeeling town. The aerial distance from Darjeeling to Dawaipani is barely 4 kms. If you have ever been to Darjeeling Mall and have seen the hills towards the east of the town, Dawai Pani would be the village just directly opposite to you.
The main attraction of Dawai Pani village is the grand view of Kanchenjunga range of hills with Darjeeling town in the foreground. Most tourists visit Dawai Pani to enjoy nature at its pristine best. There are forests all around the village where a variety of birds makes it an ideal birding destination.
Most tourists also avail the sightseeing that are available at Darjeeling from here. The village of Dawaipani is a small village at an extremely remote corner of the hills. In fact the road from Dawaipani does not go any further and ends in the village itself. The main attraction of the village and its Homestay is the grand mountain view you can get from here. Majestic snow peaks of Kanchenjunga forms the backdrop of the queen of hills Darjeeling here. On a clear day the view is truly amazing. The area is heavily forested with occasional tea garden here and there.
The name “Dawaipani” literally mean “Water that heals”. The name is derived from mineral spring and hot waters which is said to heal many illnesses. However in the village itself there is no such mineral springs as of now. There are some mineral springs further down the hill and inside the deep forests that can be reached on foot.

Dawaipani area can be reached through Peshok road. For the uninitiated, The Peshok road is the one that connects Darjeeling with Kalimpong. The stretch between Jorebungalow and Teesta Bazar on this road is called Peshok Road.
The road itself is quite beautiful and there are small villages along the road. Two such villages are 3rd mile and 6th mile. The name of the place indicates approximate distance from Jorebungalow crossing. From both 3rd mile and 6th mile there is a North bound road which can take you to Dawaipani. The road from 3rd mile is more obvious and difficult to miss. This is also the original road to reach Dawaipani. But the 6th mile road is more recent, in better condition and the distance is also shorter. However unlike the 3rd mile road, this road does not originate at exactly 6th mile but about 500 meters away from the village. Given the desolate area, unless you are aware of the place, it may be difficult for you to identify the road. If you are not travelling on a hired vehicle and want a shared transport to reach here, it will require some patience and energy as the route is very less trodden. Reaching Darjeeling by shared vehicle is absolutely easy. From Darjeeling take a shared vehicle toward Teesta and get down either at 3rd mile or 6th mile. You can get a vehicle hired from either of these places. From 6th mile you may also try walking if you are fit and have a backpack. The entire walk may take an hour or less.Even More...
