At an altitude of about 5000 feet, Mirik has a mild weather. The summer here is comfortable and the winters though cold, does not reach freezing point. One can visit the area throughout the year. Even during monsoon months where there is chance of landslide in the hills, the Mirik Siliguri as well as the Mirik Darjeeling road mostly remains unaffected. The best time to visit Mirik is probably the post monsoon October when the sky remains clear and the view of the majestic Kanchenjunga is at its best. Summer months of April to June is also peak season in the area. During the winter months, our Homestay provides room heater against additional charge to keep you warm.
Humro Home Mirik has the rare recognition of being one of the oldest Homestay not only of Mirik but also in its surrounding valleys. It has been catering to its Indian as well as international guests in the most homely manner away from their home for more than the last three and half decades. Humro Home Mirik is situated about 15 minutes walk from the Northern fringe of Mirik Lake.
Humro Home Mirik's existence has been in conjunction with the development of Mirik near Darjeeling as a tourist destination since the 1980’s. Along with the promotions of tourism in Mirik initiated by the tourism department of West Bengal, arrived the steady influx of tourists. Mirik at that point of time had few options of hotels and lodges. Our Homestay took the reign with a 150 years Old Ancestral Cottage and there has been no looking back. Unfortunately, the old cottages were damaged during the 2011 earthquake, but its deserving podium has been taken over by brand new cottages with better facilities and newer architecture but at the same time, preserving the calmness and serenity of old times. The Homestay still is being run by the descendants of the same family and thus the original charm has been maintained in its pristine best.
Being located close to Mirik town, you may easily visit Mirik lake and undertake the activity surrounding it such as visit to the Helipad, walk in the woods surrounding the lake, boating in the Mirik lake or a visit to the local monastery.
To make the guests of our Homestay experience a true and undiluted rural life, extra outdoor adventures such as the local tour of the cardamom fields, a real life experience of organic farming, a short hike on the jungle trail, fishing activities in the natural streams, birding during spring and summer and bonfire in the evening are also organized. Getting to nature will never be closer than this. If you want to undertake any of these activities, you need to inform us before arrival, ideally well in advance.
We not only serve the freshest of food but also let the tourists indulge in preparation of their meals in our typical Mirik ways, and consider the hygiene and health of our guests as top priority.
Mirik is a small town in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Humro Home Mirik is located at Pahila Gaon, Mirik Busti. One and a half kms from the main town, it is just the right distance away from the hustle and noise of the town but close enough for any exigencies. The Mirik lake (Sumendu Lake) is within 15 minutes walking distance. It is surrounded by orchards all around which produce the famous oranges of Mirik. It provides the most breathtaking views of the Mighty Kanchendzonga especially during dawn and dusk.
After reaching Mirik, take the main road from the Mirik lake towards the market. This is the most important road in Mirik and important offices and buildings are located on this road. About one and half kilometre from the lake as you enter the bazaar area, take a right turn towards Pahilo Gaon through a narrow road. About 1.5 kms ahead on this road is the location of Humro Home Mirik. Many other Homestay are also located in the area. But our Homestay is the first on this route. If you are coming from Darjeeling side, you will reach Pahila gaon before reaching the lake area.
