The Sonpur House of Takdah is arguably the best bungalow in the area. It is constructed in British colonial style and is referred to by the locals as Takdah Heritage Bungalow number 12.
The bungalow was in ruins and abundant till its present owners decided to renovate the accommodation. There has been major renovation in 2015-16 to bring the bungalow back to its previous glory. The new owners have also renamed the bungalow The Pine Castle. So Sonpur House, Takdah Palace, Bungalow Number 12 and The Pine Castle all refer to the same place now.
The Location of the bungalow is also quite unique, unlike the other homestays in the area, the Sonpur House is located away from the main town in a very peaceful and serene environment. There is pine forest all around and yet the main town is just 5 minute's walk away. Presently there are 4 deluxe rooms, each room is equipped with an attached toilet with the latest toiletries and the rooms have the most luxurious furnishing.

Drive to Takdah Cantonment area first. You can come here either via the Kalimpong - Darjeeling Peshok Road or through the Riyang – Teesta Valley road that originates near Teesta River on the National Highway 10.
Once you are in the Takdah area, the best way to locate the Homestay is to ask any local, The Bungalow No 12 as it is called by the locals, is known to every local without exception and you should not have any problem locating this bungalow in a sparsely populated village.
