14 km from Darjeeling town, Lepchajagat is a small village on the Darjeeling – Mirik highway. The main attraction is the great view of Kanchenjunga. You can also see Darjeeling in its full glory from here.
Lepchajagat is not the usual popular tourist destination with its multiple options for sightseeing and activity. It is a quintessential hill village with great mountain views and a peaceful atmosphere. The additional advantage is its great location which makes it possible to visit Darjeeling within half an hour's drive.
The forest department built a forest bungalow here several decades back for its officials and tourists. The place gained in tourist importance over the years and many homestays came up. Today Lepchajagat is one of the more popular tourist destinations in the area, visitors here come to soak in nature’s bounty and relax. This is not a destination for a whirlwind trip, but for a relaxed traveller who wants to take walks in the local villages and enjoy the surroundings.
Darjeeling is of course the most crucial destination nearby. At a distance of 14 km, you can stay in Lepchajagat and enjoy everything that Darjeeling offers. Ghoom, the highest railway station in India is just 7 km away. Jorepokhari, with its Shiva temple and lake, is just 6 km away whereas Maneybhanjung, the starting point for treks to the Sandakphu area is at a distance of 11 km. Even Mirik can be reached within an hour's drive from Lepchajagat, being at a distance of 30 km. On the way to Mirik, you can also visit the Nepal border town of Pashupati (20 km)
Lepchajagat can be reached within 3 hour drive from NJP / Bagdogra. Mirik, another hill station in the Darjeeling district, is just 30 km and an hour's drive away. Accommodation
