Takdah cantonment area was developed by the British as a military cantonment in the early years of the 20th century. Later the place also became popular for the cinchona plantation in the area. More than 100 years back the area was inhabited by the cinchona planters. They build several bungalows in typical British architecture. Half a dozen or so are still habited mostly by the locals. A few of the bungalows are today let out as homestays. One such bungalow is Bungalow number 6, the owner has named the homestay here as 'Sai Hridayam'.
